Libera

I’ve perked up. Have a look at this Piero Pelu video. When he opens his arms and sings “libera” that’s the way I feel at the moment.

I was thinking about something that Peg (see comments) said about holding still and letting God fall in love with me. It didn’t sound like a bad thing to say but it didn’t quite fit with me because I couldn’t imagine God as the active partner in a relationship. I asked the priest about it and he explained some things about God’s non-anthropomorphic incomprehensible infinite nature, how we all have different experiences etc …

I thought about it a bit and it occurred to me that in nearly all my dealings with people I am the active partner. I’m the one who seeks people out and befriends them.  I have had people seek me out but it’s a fairly unusual experience. Unfortunately I tend to value a relationship more when I’ve had to make an effort.

So unlike Peg I can’t imagine God falling in love with me. I can imagine myself pulling my boots on, picking up a rucksack and going out to seek God. But I’m not too keen on Him pulling His boots on and pursuing me. (I do know God doesn’t have feet.)

I suppose I’ve always been like that. Except when I’m suffering from a loss of confidence I’m always the person who goes out seeking. That’s why I’ve had so many adventures and my chance of a conventional career is more or less gone.
